Picked a table in the garden which is big and dog friendly but going to the bar to order was a bit ridiculous, they have a big table right in... read more front of the bar which is not very big anyway and made it difficult to get in and order your food and drinks, service was very slow and they had ran out of vegetarian items, food was very good but very expensive I think £16 for a chicken burger and chips is a bit much especially as the jerk chicken inside was very small. The whole place had a look of being a bit unkempt as well with grotty toilets and the garden very untidy with rubbish and tables left uncleared for ages. Such a shame as in a lovely setting but just needs more attention to detail if they are going to charge that much for food

The second time we have eaten under the new management and we are impressed.
First we ate in the normal restaurant part of the pub and our party of six... read more all ate excellent pub food and the staff were excellent.
On Friday they provided a really excellent Buffett for our group of 20 in the refurbished barn extension which to my knowledge had not been use for many news. The buffet can be described as tapas style food and the dishes offered were inventive and excellent and plenty of it, so much so that we all took home doggie bags!. The staff gave us really excellent service, and we hope that this lovely pub has at last got a management it deserves after many years of mismanagement .martindD2889TB

We have just returned to Cumbria after a 4 night stay in my county of birth, Kent! We were staying at Sevenoaks as I wanted to visit the area where... read more my ancestors lived. Their name just happened to be Heaver and although I knew they had lived in Cobham I wanted to visit Heaverham. We decided to eat at The Chequers and didn’t regret it at all. From the moment we walked through the door we were made really welcome. The lady, maybe the landlady?, chatted as though we’d visited many times before and we had a good laugh when we slipped up by ordering the Disco fries as a starter between us. The portion is huge, even for a main course, but it was so difficult not to eat them all, they were yummy, as we’d chosen fish and chips to follow. We rate it as one of the best pub fish and chips we’ve had, along with mushy peas and plenty of homemade tartar sauce. The only downside was the fact that we didn’t even have room left for ice cream.
If only we didn’t live so far away. Can’t even think of a pub similar around here that would provide such good service and food. Here’s hoping we can return one day.
Thank you to all the staffgerrardCumbria

This Pub deserves every continued success when normality returns, they have been very innovative during Lockdowns and obviously worked very hard to improve and enhance the service they provide to the local community, and their lovely garden is just waiting for visitors to arrive when this allowed, we wish them well for the future, thanks Guys .LindaBSevenoaks
